Differentiating your Classroom for Success

3 Semester Units

Differentiated instruction is a way of thinking about teaching and learning, and creating teaching strategies based on that knowledge that best meets the needs of all your students. A differentiated classroom uses opportunities that put the learning needs of the students at the center of planning. It also provides specific information and guidelines on how to determine what content area with which to start and actually implement differentiation into your curriculum. The course is designed to help you address the varied learning strengths, styles and needs of your students and to better ensure that all your students will be successful. You will learn in a step- by –step manner how to design curriculum that is motivating and engaging, while at the same time creating a manageable, student centered learning environment. Three fundamental theoretical models, Bloom’s Taxonomy and Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences along with the use of Thinking Maps will provide the framework for creating your own differentiated classroom.
