Foundations of Instruction, Researched Based Approaches and Methods for English Learners

3 Semester Units

This course focuses on the foundations of instructional programs for English Learners, Foundations of English language literacy, instructional planning, and organization for ELD and SDAIE, components of effective instructional delivery in ELD and SDAIE, evaluate key procedures, & effective resource use in ELD and SDAIE. The historical, legal, and legislative foundations of instructional programs for English learners, including federal and state laws, policies, legal decisions, and demographic changes at the local, state and national levels. The course provides philosophies and assumptions underlying various instructional program models methods for English learners, as well as current research on the effectiveness of these various models and methods of instruction.
